Da ja nepisem kopirat cu tekst sta sam nasao na internetu, dakle problem je isti i kod mene samo ja imam compaq presario cq 56 203SM.
Freedos OS can't detect my cd-rom, or the cd driver cannot be loaded problem?
I bought a new laptop, its a Compaq Presario CQ-40 310AU that comes with freedos OS, i tried booting from the cd but i get the error "No IDE/ATAPI Drives found!", "Can't open CD driver FDCD0001"
how can i fix this problem? I've been searching on the net for the solution but can't seem to find any.
It seems, freedos can't detect the cdrom on the laptop.

There are a couple things u should check. Basically a) we need to make certain the machine is set up to boot from the CD; & b) we need to ensure proper loading of the cd drivers. We're going to take these in order, making sure that the machine can boot from cd first.
1) when u turn the computer on, it begins doing a power-on-self-test. What we need to do here is to go into the setup utility. To do this, the manual states the following: While the "Press the ESC key for Startup Menu" message is displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen, press f10.
At this point u should be in the setup utility.
Select the system configuration menu, then boot options, & make certain either that boot from cd is enabled or enable it if it is not. Also, go into the boot order menu & make certain that internal cd or dvd rom is set to boot prior to the hard drive. F5 & f6 evidently cycle thru values. To save your changes, press escape, then exit, saving changes. If u get a message that says "press any key to boot from cd", do so.
2) If that does not help, then our problem is that there is not a proper entry in config.sys to load the cd-rom. That is gonna mean modifying the files on the cd, & that can get a bit interesting. Let's try this solution 1st, but, if it does not work, let me know & we'll go for door number 2!
